Introduction
Founded in Lübbecke in 1842, Barre has remained closely connected to its home in the Wiehengebirge for six generations. But a brewery is more than a date, a family name or the beer that leaves its gates. It is a place shaped over time — by the people who work there, by the buildings and machinery they inherit, and by the traditions they choose to carry forward.
Chapter One
The Brewery
A brewery reveals itself slowly.
At Barre, the first impression is one of scale and precision — stainless steel vessels, polished surfaces and the constant movement of a working production brewery. But look a little closer and another story begins to appear.
The modern brewhouse stands alongside spaces that carry the character of another time. Beneath the newer production areas, old brickwork, wooden barrels and traditional brewing equipment remain part of the brewery's identity.
There is something compelling about that contrast. The technology has changed, the scale has changed, but the purpose has remained remarkably simple: to make good beer.
Here, the past has not been pushed aside to make room for the present. Both exist together, giving Barre its own character — a brewery shaped by generations, but still very much alive today.
